How to Export a GPX File from Komoot

  1. Sign in to Komoot.
  2. Open your profile.
  3. Choose Saved routes or Completed activities.
  4. Open the route or activity you need.
  5. Select Download GPX file.

  3. Open one item.
  4. Use Download GPX file, then save or share the file from your phone.

Komoot’s current export and import guide confirms that routes and activities are exported one at a time. The starting region must be unlocked.

What the exported file contains

The GPX contains the route geometry and GPS coordinates. It does not reproduce Komoot’s map tiles, voice navigation, or planning waypoints. That separation is useful: the file carries the line, while the destination service decides how to display it.

Make sure the route is current

If you recently changed a planned route, open it in the planner and save it before exporting. Komoot notes that downloaded GPX files do not update automatically when the original route changes. Its dynamic-route documentation explains this behaviour.

Common Komoot GPX problems

  • If Download GPX is unavailable, check whether the starting region is unlocked.
  • If the route looks different elsewhere, the receiving app may be matching points to its own road or trail network.
  • Export again after every meaningful route edit.
  • Komoot does not offer a bulk GPX download, so export only the routes you need.

Planned route or completed activity?

A planned route shows where you intended to go. A completed activity shows where the device actually recorded you. For a race, tour, or personal achievement poster, the completed activity is usually the more meaningful choice.
